Straits Textile & Clothing Fair Casual Wear Expo

From April 18 to April 21 every year, the Straits Textile & Clothing Fair Casual Wear Expo (STCF for short), is held in Shishi, a famous city for casual wear in China. As a national and international textile and clothing grand fair, the STCF takes "Taiwan and mainland, leisure, scale, specialty, and fashion" as the theme and "Promoting the cross-strait industries development as well as economic and trade exchanges between China and foreign countries" as the purpose. Thousands of enterprises take part in this fair. The fair scale with 300,000 square meters fully reflects the leadership of China's largest casual wear plate and industrial cluster advantages. During this time, various and unique supporting activities will be held in this fair. The STCF has become the best professional fair in local area.

The STCF is jointly organized by Fujian Provincial People’s Government, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, China National Textile and Apparel Council, China National Garment Association, China Fashion Association, Taiwan Textile Federation, Taiwan Knitting Industry Association, Taiwan Garment Industry Association, and Taiwan Sweater Industry Association. People's Government of Quanzhou City and People's Government of Shishi City are in charge of specific works. Fujian Provincial Economics and Trade Commission, Fujian Foreign Investment Service Center, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Fujian Sub-Council, and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Fujian Province are members. Fujian Garment & Garment Article Association, Fujian Textile Industry Association, Fujian Clothes Materials Trade Association, Fujian Sewing Machine Industry Association, Quanzhou Taiwan Investment Enterprise Association, Quanzhou Textile & Garments Association, Shishi Textiles & Garment Industry Association, Shishi Dyeing and Finishing Industry Association, Shishi Clothes Materials Industry Association, Shishi Casual Pants Industry Association, Shishi Clothing Footwear Accessories Industry, Chamber of Commerce of China Garment City, Shishi Children’s Industry Association, Shanghai Hua Lian Sewing Equipment Co, Ltd., China Textile News Office, China Fashion Weekly Office, Fashion Times Office, and Textile & Apparel Weekly are cooperative partners. The 14th Straits Textile and Clothing Fair will be held in China's famous city for casual wear-Shishi, Fujian Province on April 18 to April 21, 2011.

As the China's famous city for casual wear, Shishi is located at the west coast of Taiwan Strait, adjacent to Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao, enjoying the unique regional advantages. It is the China's famous distributing center and source region for the textile and clothing industry. Since 1992, Shishi has held more than ten commodity fairs targeted garments for consecutive years. In 1995, the STCF was confirmed to be held in Shishi. With the increasing influence and effect of fairs, the STCF became a professional and economic and trade grand fair hosted by Fujian Provincial People’s Government, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, China National Textile and Apparel Council, etc. in 1998. As a national and international textile and clothing grand fair, the STCF takes "Promoting the cross-strait industries development as well as economic and trade exchanges between China and foreign countries" as the main purpose, "Gathering together in garment city and jointly expanding the Taiwan and mainland market" and "Taiwan, specialty, leisure, and fashion" as the philosophy, as well as "Promoting Shishi and Fujian textile garment industrial development" as the target in order to continuously improve the fair level, expand fair scale, and make every fair have a new feeling.

In 1999, the Garment Strategy Seminar for STCF in the Famous Garment City and Exhibition for Works of Famous Designers from Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan were held. Since then, the STCF's cultural connotation has been improved year by year. The release activity of fashionable garments designed by designers from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan has become a highlight for the STCF. Up to the present, more than 20 famous designers including Zhang Zhaoda, Hu Yajuan, Wu Haiyan, Qigang, Shi Xiyu, Cai Liyu from Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan have release their works in the STCF. Starting from 2002, the STCF achieved a new breakthrough in terms of "Straits" feature. Taiwan Textile Federation, Taiwan Knitting Industry Association, Taiwan Garment Industry Association, and Taiwan Sweater Industry Association actively participate in the sponsorship of the STCF and come up with ideas for STCF. In December 2002, Shishi was awarded the title of "China's Famous City for Casual Wear". In 2003, the STCF added the "Leisure" theme for the first time and the Casual Wear Expo was held at the same time.At the opening ceremony, the unveiling ceremony for "China's Famous City for Casual Wear" was held, which represented that Shishi had started the journey for creating brands for the famous casual wear city. The display area for fabric and auxiliary materials was firstly set up, which effectively promoted the textile and clothing upstream and downstream industries development.

In 2005, the 8th STCF was held in Shishi, the largest garment commercial center in Asia. At the same time, the Shishi Garment City was ceremoniously opened. The fair and market was completely integrated. The STCF became a big stage for Fujian garments with the Shishi garment plate as the core to show the theme of fashion. Due to the tremendous influence and good reputation of STCF, in April 2006, the STCF was awarded the title of "Top 10 Most Influential Textile and Clothing Fair in China".

In 2007, the STCF National Development and Reform Committee organized an economic and trade delegation consisting of 38 national administrative officers and economic & trade representatives to take part in this fair. South Korea and Vietnam specially organized the group for marketing. Hong Kong Trade Development Council continuously organized the group to attend this fair and it also set up a special hall for marketing. The procurement group consisting of Italy, France, Japan, and South Korea organized by Shanghai World Trade Organization also attended this fair. In addition, international economic and trade friends from more than 50 countries and regions attended this fair. All preceding factors further reflect the internationality of this fair.

In 2008, the STCF was divided into six areas and two pavilions. The pavilion 1 and pavilion 2 cover an area of 38,000 square meters in total for exhibition, with more than 1,600 booths. More than 400 enterprises from USA, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Philippine, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Chinese mainland took part in this fair, with the agreed business volume of RMB 6.07 billion, attracting 130,000 visitors. The professional merchants from more than 50 countries and regions including USA, Europe, Japan, South Korea, Middle East, and Southeast Asia as well as Chinese mainland reached 15,000 people. In addition, over 130 main and professional medias including CCTV, Xinhua Net, etc. conduct the live broadcast and make thematic reports.

In 2009, although affected by the economic crisis, the display area for the STCF still reached 20,000 square meters, with the agreed business volume of RMB 6.702 billion, increased by 11.37%. The visitors visiting the pavilion and garment city reached 158,000 people (16,700 thousand of which are professional merchants), increased by 21.54%. The international purchasers from over 50 countries and regions including Europe, USA, Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa as well as domestic industrial clusters also organized the group to attend this fair.

In 2010, the 13th STCF completely showed new products of ready-made clothes, textile fabric, auxiliary materials, and garment machinery industry chain, which prominently represented the China's casual wear and fabric development level, led the fashionable trend of casual wear and fabric as well as became an example for industrial exchanges, development, and cooperation between Chinese mainland and Taiwan. The fair display scale reached 45,000 square meters, of which, 8,700 square meters are used to display the garment and 6,800 square meters are used to display the fabric and auxiliary materials. The display area for garment machinery reached 30,000 square meters. Taiwan’s display scale was the largest compared with its former scale, with 5,680 square meters. During the four-day exhibition period, the agreed business volume reached RMB 7.813 billion, increased by 16.58% compared with that last year. The visitors visiting the pavilion and garment city reached 170,600 people, of which, 21,500 people are foreign professional merchants. The 1st Straits International Fashion Week was held during this STCF, holding 12 release activities for brand fashion clothes and works designed by Chinese and foreign designers. The "Straits Fashion" prize attracted a large number of excellent brands products and designers to participate in this competition. This fashion week has become a new platform to display the China's garment brands, show the talents of Chinese and foreign designers, and establish Shishi's position as the China's leisure & fashion trend source and release region.

After 12 years’ development, the STCF, taking the textile clothing as the theme and highlighting the feature of cross-strait economic and trade cooperation, has become a textile and clothing professional and grand fair in China with large scale, high level, and high influences. In addition, it has become a platform combining financial products and information, economy and culture, production and consumption, west coast and east coast, international and domestic trend, as well as theory and practice. It has profound accumulation and huge human relations, information, and resource networks. It is not only a fair, but also a strong upward force that cannot be ignored including integrating industrial resources and promoting the development of the entire industry, enhancing the enterprises' brands value, leading the fashion trend, promoting the transition and upgrade of China's garment, and achieving the breakthrough in terms of value.

By holding the fair, Shishi Municipal Committee and Government spare no efforts to cultivate and enhance the city cultural vitality as well as promote the city upgrading. During the STCF, the target of "Creating brands for famous garment city" was publicized through successfully holding the following activities including "Shishi Garment City Promotion Conference", "Leisure Tourism Forum", and "Southern Fujian Garment Culture Exhibition" and reports from different medias. Because the government attaches great importance to this industry and the project planning is far-sighted with creative spirits, it is a good opportunity to improve city’s attractiveness, build up city’s brands and achieve city's marketing strategy.

Driven by the STCF's holding, a batch of key projects have been completed and put into use, which improves city's grade. Meanwhile, the comprehensive environment including communications & transportation, post & telecommunications and communications, financial service, tourism reception, port inspection, recreation and shopping, as well as personnel quality training has become better and better. The STCF speed up the city development. Shishi has been confirmed as a center city for "Southern Fujian Garment", center city for the Quanzhou Bay and ports, coastal tourism & leisure city for commerce and trade as well as the "Battlefront" for opening up and Taiwan exchanges. The STCF shows Shishi's economic, cultural and technological level to the people and displays Shishi's good images in terms of opening up and good development prospects. It has become a famous brand of Shishi. Due to the STCF, Shishi becomes a shining pearl in the economic zone on the western coast of the Taiwan.
